Enlarged labia minora protruding beyond the labia majora are a source of discomfort. Not only are they irritated by rubbing against lingerie, especially when playing sports, but they can also make wearing tight-fitting clothes such as swimsuits or jeans unsightly. What's more, they can sometimes interfere painfully with intimacy.The procedure, called reduction nymphoplasty, involves surgically reducing the width of the labia minora to that of the labia majora. Excess mucosa is removed and sutured with absorbable sutures to avoid painful thread removal. The operation is generally performed on an outpatient basis under vigorous anaesthesia, but can also be performed under general anaesthesia. The treatment of enlarged labia minora has become a frequent request to plastic surgeons because of the physical and aesthetic discomfort they cause.<\/p>\n

How is nymphoplasty performed?<\/h2>\n

Labiaplasty\" involves reducing the size of the genital labia minora in cases of hypertrophy. There are several surgical techniques for reducing the size of the labia minora, but the two main ones are the longitudinal technique and the V-plasty technique.<\/p>\n

Longitudinal technique :<\/h3>\n

This is the most commonly used technique in France, and allows the excess part of the labia minora to be removed longitudinally from the skin and mucosa. This more recent technique has the advantage of hiding the scar internally to reduce the risk of scar disunion. This technique can be used for medium to small reductions. In cases of major hypertrophy of the labia minora, this technique is not indicated.<\/p>\n

Labia minora reduction surgery (nymphoplasty) is generally painless, although walking may be uncomfortable for the first few days.
