How does permanent laser hair removal work?

To begin with and to put you in context, we will explain how the treatment oflaser hair removal.

Why permanent laser hair removal?

This treatment offers the possibility of gradually but definitively getting rid of the hair present on an area of the body or face. This is a permanent hair removal technique for all skin types.

How does the laser work on hair?

The laser acts directly on the hair bulb, which is responsible for hair regrowth. To do this, its light beam passes through the epidermis, along the entire length of the hair. The melanin inside the hair consumes all the laser energy. It then transforms this energy into very high heat, which not only disintegrates the hair, but also destroys the bulb and all its components, through a combustion effect.

Who can benefit from laser hair removal?

Be careful, however, if your hair is very light, blond, white or red. Hair removal will have very little impact on hair that contains little melanin, if any at all. If this is your case, it means you have "non-receptive" melanin. The result of epilation will therefore not be successful.

How many laser sessions are required?

Number of sessions to be determined by several factors

The number of sessions required for permanent hair removal will depend first and foremost on the area to be treated. To remove hair from the armpits, legs and bikini line, you'll need an average of 4 to 12 sessions. Additional sessions may be required for facial hair, back hair or hair on the thighs.
In addition, the number of sessions may vary from person to person. The reason may lie in a potential hormonal imbalance, for example.

For hair removal on facial areas, we recommend a session every 4 to 5 weeks, at the time of regrowth. Unlike other areas of the body, this area should not be shaved before a session.
For hair removal on body parts, the frequency is less important than for the face: you'll need to wait 8 to 12 weeks between each session. If hair grows back in the meantime, you can use a razor or depilatory cream.

Why are so many sessions necessary?

For permanent laser hair removal, you need to take into account the hair cycle, which can last from 7 to 18 months, depending on the area to be treated. This cycle can be broken down into 3 phases: the anagen phase (young hair in full growth), the catagen phase (old hair at the end of its life), and the telogen phase (dead hair). Laser hair removal can only work on growing hair, i.e. in the anagen phase. During this phase, the laser can reach the melanin pigment via the hair shaft that attaches the hair to the bulb, which is non-existent during the other phases. Since all the hairs in an area to be treated are not coordinated at the same time in their natural cycle, sessions will need to be repeated as often as necessary for complete, permanent hair removal.
