Breast lift

Most women's breasts change over time. Weight variations, repeated pregnancies and breast-feeding diminish skin quality and breast volume. The breast then becomes ptosis, and a breast lift may be necessary. Breast ptosis may be present from the outset, or occur after significant weight loss, pregnancy or breast-feeding. It may also be associated with breast hypertrophy. Conversely, ptosis can occur in the context of breasts that are too small (congenital breast hypoplasia or hypotrophy) or after significant weight loss. In these cases, correction may include the addition of prostheses.

Objective of Mastopexy surgery:

A breast lift treats breast ptosis by reshaping and lifting the mammary gland. The cure of breast ptosis will restore a harmonious shape to the breasts, but will create scars - scarring. The aim of surgery is to reposition the areola and nipple, and to reshape and lift the mammary gland to fill the upper part of the breast. This remodelling redistributes volumes, making the breasts more harmonious. Surgery generally creates a T-shaped or anchor-shaped scar.

Scars:

They differ according to the degree of breast ptosis, as the size of the scars depends directly on the degree of breast ptosis;
A breast lift can be performed in three different ways.
-Inverted T for major ptosis, this technique allows the gland to be raised by more than 10 cm.
A vertical scar under the nipple combined with a peri-areolar scar for moderate ptosis
-A periareolar scar for minor ptosis. This technique is most often combined with a breast augmentation by prosthesis.

Duration of intervention:

Breast lift surgery lasts an average of 2 hours, but varies according to the mastopexy technique used.

Anaesthesia :

Breast lift surgery requires general anesthesia.

Operation

  • Preoperative examination : Mammography is recommended after the age of 30.
  • Surgery : Performed under general anaesthetic in a half-seated position to enhance breast shape. The procedure lasts approximately two hours. Surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, with morning admission and same-day discharge.
  • Post-operative care Daily showering is recommended from the day after surgery. A post-operative check-up is necessary the very next day to ensure that all is well.

Consequences of Intervention

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding : Subsequent pregnancy is possible. Breastfeeding is generally possible after breast reconstruction, although this cannot be guaranteed in all cases.
  • Cancer risk : The procedure does not increase the risk of breast cancer.

Operative sequences :

A one-day hospital stay is required.
-No post-operative drainage
-The surgical dressing is put in place for one day, then replaced by a support bra by the surgeon on leaving the clinic (it is kept on for 1 month).
-No sporting activity for 1 to 2 months.
-No exposure of scars to the sun for 1 year (sunblock or bikini line)
-After a breast lift, it is advisable to maintain a stable weight to ensure lasting results.
