Lips: hyaluronic acid injection

Mouth beautification and rejuvenation must be customized to the patient's expectations and desires. The main objective of mouth rejuvenation is to remain natural.

Thanks to aesthetic medicine and injections ofhyaluronic acid it is possible to:

-Reduce wrinkles around the mouth,
-Redraw the lip hem (cupid's bow),
-Plumping the red lip

The beauty and youthfulness of a face are often associated with full lips, which can be altered by certain factors (such as the sun, smoking, or the passage of time).

Over time, lips become thinner, resulting in a receding appearance of the lips inside the mouth. One of the first signs of aging lips is the shrinking of the upper vermilion (the visible red mucous membrane of the lip), which begins to "pull" further into the mouth.

We also note a lengthening of the distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose (known as the "white lip"), a distance further lengthened by the loss of muscle tone. Wrinkles set in at the corners of the mouth and above the upper lip, on the white lip.

Ageing of the lips leads to a flattening of the philtral ridges and a blurred lip contour with a less defined cupid's bow, not to mention a general loss of relief.

The cupid's bow is the arc of a circle drawn by the philtrum on the edge of the upper lip. With age, its delineation becomes blurred.

Ethymologically, the term "bow" comes from its curved shape, and the term "cupid" has its origins in its connotation with the kiss of love.

Like the eye contour, the lips are among the first areas of the face to suffer from aging. Fragile, the lips and their contours change over time, but the signs of lip aging vary in intensity from one individual to another. For example, some people will have multiple small wrinkles on their red and white lips, while others will have very few but very pronounced wrinkles.

Today, there are aesthetic techniques capable of effectively countering these effects, enabling us to restore naturally youthful lips.

These aesthetic medicine techniques have two main actions: increasing lip volume (filler injection), for a plumping effect, and treating wrinkles, for a smoothing and lifting effect.

Injections of hyaluronic acid into the lips allow us to reshape the lips, redefine their blurred contours, restore the original relief of the red lip and reaffirm the philtral ridges that have become thinner over time.

Injecting hyaluronic acid will :

- Increase the volume of lips that are too thin.

- Soften vertical lines around the mouth.

- Moisturize lips.

- Correct asymmetry of the mouth.

Injections are generally painless, as hyaluronic acid for the lip contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic. If the patient is very sensitive, an anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand.

For the mouth, we use a fluid gel whose texture adapts perfectly to the shape of the lips without exaggerating the swelling effect. It gradually modifies the volume by redefining the hem and contours of the lips, as well as the philtrum and cupid's bow.

To erase small perioral wrinkles, we prefer the surface topping technique, which consists of spreading the product in a fan shape to tighten the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is an absorbable product. Results are immediately visible. Because of its mobility, the lip is an area where hyaluronic acid resorbs fairly quickly. Injections should be repeated every eight months.

The increased volume of the mouth is natural, with no duckbill effect. If necessary, once the edema has completely disappeared, the surgeon can perform a small touch-up session to achieve a perfectly symmetrical final result.

For optimal, natural results, it is important to avoid any excess or over-correction when injecting hyaluronic acid.

Sometimes, a simple, light upper lip reshaping with a hyaluronic acid injection can give tired lips a new lease of life.

This treatment focuses more on skin quality, fine lines and wrinkles than on volume, restoring a smile's natural freshness and youthfulness.
